HOST

Our community needs volunteers who can provide parking for motorhomes, space for tents, bed, and/or bathroom facilities.

Hosts are only expected to provide a place for riders to rest their heads for the night. This space can be either inside or outside. Local housing volunteers are not required to entertain guests or provide them with amenities. Hosts are not required to transport or feed the riders.

WHAT A RIDER EXPECTS:
➡ A place to put a tent outside, or inside floor space for a sleeping bag.
➡ Access, if possible, to a bathroom and shower.
➡ Possibly somewhere to fill water bottle.
WHAT A RIDER SHOULD NOT EXPECT:
➡ To have full use of your home.
➡ To be fed and entertained.
➡ Towels, soap or shampoo.
WHAT HOSTS CAN EXPECT:
➡ Well-behaved, appreciative guests.
Guests who respect your wishes.
➡ The riders to arrive mid to early afternoon and be gone by 9:00 a.m. the next day.
➡ Someone who will remember your kindness.
➡ To meet some fascinating people.
WHAT IS COMPLETELY UP TO YOU:
➡ How many guests and who (you get to select them yourself)
➡ Restroom facilities
➡ Laundry facilities
➡ Whether you want to offer coffee, snacks, a beverage or anything for that matter.

If a rider is unregistered, that means they have not signed the RAGBRAI Waiver and Release of Liability. Therefore anyone in the community who houses unregistered riders opens themselves to full liability for whatever may happen when that rider is at their home.
Please notify the RAGBRAI Housing Chair if you have already accepted riders to be guests in your home. If you have agreed to accept a rider who has not registered and therefore not signed a waiver of RAGBRAI LI – Overnight Town Handbook – 2024 HOUSING COMMITTEE RAGBRAI LI liability, you could in some cases be personally accepting all the risk of having strangers stay in your home.
