Glenwood Gears Up to Host RAGBRAI 2024, Invites Community Involvement

The anticipation is building as Glenwood prepares to kick off RAGBRAI 2024, the world’s largest and oldest bicycling event, on Saturday, July 20th. As the starting town for this year’s event, Glenwood is gearing up to welcome thousands of riders and visitors to its picturesque city nestled in the Loess Hills.

The organizing committee, led by the Advisory Board, is rallying the community to join forces and make RAGBRAI 2024 a resounding success. With a theme that embodies the spirit of the challenging terrain and the enthusiastic community spirit, Glenwood’s theme for this year’s event is “Loess Get it Started! Hill Yeah!”. The theme logo was designed by Marketing Committee Chair Joe Edwards, of Joe Designer, Inc.

Mayor Angela Winquist expressed excitement about Glenwood’s role as the starting town, stating, “It takes a village to host an event of this magnitude, and Glenwood is ready to showcase our hospitality and scenic beauty to riders from across the globe.”

Volunteers are the lifeblood of RAGBRAI, and Glenwood is calling on residents and supporters to step up and lend a hand. With an estimated need for 400 volunteers, there are opportunities for everyone to get involved. Whether assisting with event setup, working in the beverage garden, or joining a committee, there’s a role for every willing participant.

“We welcome volunteers of all abilities and availability,” said Amber Farnan, Advisory Board Member. “Whether you can spare a few hours during the event or commit to joining one of our committees, your contribution will make a difference in ensuring a memorable and enjoyable experience for riders and visitors alike.”

Volunteer opportunities span various areas, including housing, campgrounds, hospitality, public safety, entertainment, and more. By joining a committee, volunteers can play a crucial role in shaping different aspects of the event and leave a lasting impact on the community.

RAGBRAI offers an unparalleled opportunity for Glenwood to showcase its charm, culture, and hospitality to a global audience. The event promises to be a celebration of camaraderie, adventure, and the scenic beauty of the Loess Hills.
